About Southern & Ettalong United FC
SEUFC was established through the unification of the Ettalong Beach Junior Soccer Club and the Southern United Soccer Club.
This long historical arc encompasses periods of intense competitive dominance, particularly the exceptional five-year Cup dynasty held by Southern United in the mid-1970s, through to the modern era which saw the club achieve a historic treble in 2021 and, notably, break a profound 28-year drought for the most coveted Premier League Grand Final crown
A tale of three clubs
1961: It all started with Ettalong Beach Junior Soccer Club
The history of SEU commences in 1961 with the formation of Ettalong Beach Junior Soccer Club.
Eric Todhunter and his family had just arrived on the Woy Woy Peninsula and went in search of a local soccer club. However, to Eric and his family's dismay, no junior soccer was on the Central Coast
Eric then got busy enquiring about establishing a junior club and team for his sons and together with friend Joe Fish, Don Tait and Rene Groothuizen, established a kick around at Ettalong Oval.
1972: The Birth of Southern United Soccer Club (SU)
SU was primarily formed to give clubless seniors a game and consisted for first and reserved grades and an U16 side in their first season.
The founding executive committee was led by President Bill Daniels (also a president of Ettalong SC), Vice President Arthur Tindall, Secretary Ken Scott and Treasurer Bill Ashton.
Senior teams were viewed as a nuisance, with some clubs deciding they did not to run seniors, leaving a lot of players with no where to go.
Under the guidance of Fred and Keith Ross, SU became one of the strongest senior clubs throughout Northern NSW.
Success was immediate for SU, defeating The Entrance 3-0 to win the 1st grade grand final in their first year. Goal scorers in this historic win were Lloyd Tait, Keith Ross and Cheatham. This was the start of a run of success that continued through the 1970s.
1984: The Emergence of Southern & Ettalong United Football Club
While a few mates, who were members of both SU and Ettalong soccer clubs were enjoying a quiet drink at a local establishment in 1984, the conversations turned to what could be if the two clubs amalgamated.
SU was primarily a senior club who had conquered all over the past decade and were looking to grow their depth in the juniors, while Ettalong was primarily a junior club who could boast a long record of championships and were looking for a senior football path for which their juniors could aspire to progress to.
As the excitement build, so did the conversation of a merger, with the two committees and members of both clubs conducting official meetings. Following a meeting in December 1984, a new powerhouse in Central Coast Football was formed...Southern & Ettalong United Football Club (SEU).
The merging of the two clubs saw immediate success, on and off the field, with the synergy between the two committees a huge reason for the club being a success from day one.
